KRAKEN'S PRICE FOR NOT SELECTING JAKE ALLEN REVEALED

20 jul 2021 à 10h08      T. TADI
This weekend, Marc Bergevin shocked the hockey world when it was revealed that he had indeed made the decision to leave his star goalie Carey Price unprotected.

With hip and knee injuries, he may need surgery and miss part of next season. Combined with his hefty contract and the $11 million signing bonus he is due to receive shortly, the bet is that the Seattle Kraken will decide not to select him in their expansion draft.

According to rumours, Bergevin tried until the last minute to complete a deal for goaltender Jake Allen but failed, which is why he decided not to protect Price in order to keep Allen.

Of course, he would also have tried to reach an agreement with Ron Francis, GM of the Kraken, on a deal to convince him not to select Allen if he was not protected, but without success.

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, the price Bergevin was asked to voluntarily give up on Allen and select another player was a 2nd round pick plus a prospect. The Habs GM ultimately declined and went with his plan B. According to Friedman, the price the Calgary Flames were asked to pay for not selecting veteran Mark Giordano was a 1st and 3rd round pick.

Knowing this new information, would you have made the same bet and taken the risk of losing Carey Price if you were the Habs' GM?
